Puri Gajapati proposes ‘Annakhetra’ to ease congestion at Anand Bazaar

Bhubaneswar, March 13: To address the increasing congestion at Anand Bazaar, where thousands of devotees purchase and partake in Mahaprasad, Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb has proposed setting up an ‘Annakhetra’ outside the Uttara Dwara (northern gate) of Shree Jagannath Temple.
The announcement was made after his review of the ongoing Srimandir Parikrama Prakalpa project. According to the Gajapati Maharaja, the existing Anand Bazaar is struggling to accommodate the growing number of devotees, resulting in inefficiencies in serving Mahaprasad. The proposed Annakhetra will provide a designated and organized space where devotees can consume Mahaprasad in a peaceful and systematic manner.
Additionally, he announced several other key initiatives, including the relocation of the Srimandir office and the renovation of the Shree Jagannath Cultural Library and Raghunandan Library.
During the inspection, the Gajapati Maharaja was accompanied by the Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), the District Collector, the Superintendent of Police, and Matha Mahants. The proposal aims to enhance devotees' experience while preserving temple traditions.
