Man arrested for killing his two sons, staging suicide in Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar, March 13: Fategarh police have arrested a man for allegedly strangling his two minor sons to death and then hanging their bodies to make it look like a suicide. The shocking incident took place in Dhananchengada village under Fategarh police station in Nayagarh district on March 10.
The victims, aged 14 and 12, were found hanging by their family members, who immediately alerted the police. Authorities sent the bodies for post-mortem while initiating an investigation.
The case took a turn when the deceased children’s uncle, Laxman Nayak, filed a complaint accusing his brother-in-law, Prakash Mohanty, of murdering his sons with the help of his mother, Souri Mohanty. Upon interrogation, Prakash confessed to the crime.
Investigations revealed that Prakash’s first wife had died two and a half years ago, and he was living with his parents and two sons, Akash and Bikash. Prakash had been planning to remarry, but his elder son Akash strongly opposed the decision.
On March 9, a group from Bhubaneswar visited Prakash’s house to discuss the marriage proposal. That night, Prakash and his mother allegedly conspired to kill the boys to eliminate resistance. The duo strangled the children and hanged their bodies to stage a suicide.
