Chaos in Odisha Assembly as BJD protests against Polavaram

Bhubaneswar, March 13: The Odisha Assembly’s Budget Session turned chaotic today as Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislators launched a protest against the Polavaram project, leading to an early adjournment of the House until 11:30 AM by Speaker Surama Padhy.
As per reports, Irrigation Minister Mukesh Mahaling was scheduled to respond to queries related to irrigation projects in the state. However, as soon as the question hour began, BJD members raised slogans and disrupted proceedings, demanding a discussion on the Polavaram project.
The Speaker rejected their demand, triggering a heated exchange between BJD and BJP legislators. The situation quickly escalated, forcing Speaker Padhy to adjourn the session temporarily.
Meanwhile, Congress MLAs staged a separate protest outside the Assembly near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue, demanding the revocation of the suspension of Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati. Congress members, wearing black badges, boycotted the question hour in solidarity.
With disruptions from both opposition and ruling party members, the Assembly session saw heightened tensions, impacting legislative discussions for the day.
