Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: The Odisha government has launched a 15-day inspection drive to identify unsafe, dilapidated and structurally vulnerable buildings across the State, with Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra directing officials to take prompt action to safeguard public life and property.

Under the drive, inspection teams will conduct detailed assessments of buildings suspected to be unsafe and submit their reports within the stipulated timeframe. Structures found to pose serious risks may face action, including demolition, as per applicable rules.

Mahapatra said the government had already assessed several unsafe government buildings and issued notices where required. Following a fresh review, officials have now been directed to intensify inspections and expedite action against vulnerable structures.

The Minister said buildings under the Housing & Urban Development Department would be dealt with by the department, while unsafe structures belonging to other government departments would be brought to the notice of the concerned authorities for necessary action.

The inspection drive will also cover private buildings. Owners of structures found to be dangerous or structurally weak will be served notices in accordance with statutory provisions.

Officials have been asked to ensure comprehensive inspections and timely submission of reports. Buildings posing a serious threat to public safety will face appropriate action, including demolition wherever warranted.
