Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: Odisha is likely to witness a fresh spell of increased rainfall from September 9 under the influence of a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to the IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently prevailing over the westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh, extending up to around 7.6 km above mean sea level.

Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over the westcentral and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts around September 11.

The weather system is expected to trigger a gradual increase in rainfall activity across Odisha from September 9. Heavy rainfall is likely at several places around September 10 and again between September 11 and 12.

Initially, the rainfall activity is expected to intensify over northern Odisha, before spreading to coastal, central and southern districts of the State. The system is likely to move inland by around September 14. Following its movement, rainfall activity is expected to gradually decline across Odisha.

The IMD has advised residents and local authorities to remain alert to changing weather conditions and follow subsequent forecasts and warnings.
