Mother-daughter die after electric shock in Kalahandi, villagers protest
Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: In a tragic incident, a woman and her daughter died after coming in contact with a live electric wire while the daughter was reportedly trying to rescue her mother in Karlasoda village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police station limits of Kalahandi district.
The deceased have been identified as Lalita Naik and her daughter Sheetal Naik. According to reports, Lalita accidentally came in contact with a live wire. On seeing her mother in distress, Sheetal reportedly rushed to save her but also suffered a severe electric shock.
Family members and villagers immediately sought emergency medical assistance and called an ambulance. However, they alleged that the ambulance failed to arrive despite a prolonged wait. The critically injured mother and daughter were subsequently taken to a hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
The family further alleged that the two did not receive timely and adequate treatment after reaching the hospital. Both eventually succumbed to their injuries, triggering tension in the area.
Demanding justice and action over the alleged delay in emergency services, family members and villagers placed the bodies outside the Kalahandi Collector’s office and staged a protest.
Police and the local Tahasildar reached the spot and attempted to pacify the protesters and restore normalcy.
