Juvenile arrested in Khordha teen's murder over tuition fee dispute

Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: The Commissionerate Police today announced a breakthrough in the disturbing murder case of a 14-year-old boy from Jatni.

Speaking to the press, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh disclosed that the accused has been apprehended in connection with the tragic incident. The motive behind the crime appeared to revolve around a dispute concerning unpaid tuition fees.

Police has taken the juvenile into custody, where he confessed to the crime and shed light on the reasons behind his actions. Singh also confirmed that the murder weapon had been secured by the authorities.

According to the juvenile's account during the interrogation, he claimed that he had killed the minor boy because he felt humiliated when the deceased boy's parents asked him to settle the outstanding tuition fee, which amounted to approximately Rs 3,000.

However, the father of the deceased, who is a school teacher, vehemently denied these allegations. He clarified that he had never exerted pressure on the accused to pay off the unpaid amount. He stated that they provided tuition to numerous students ranging from Class VIII to X at their residence, and the accused had been their student for the past two years. Despite having an outstanding tuition fee of approximately Rs 2,700-3,000, the family had not insisted on immediate payment.

Describing his son as a bright student without any known enmity with others, the grieving father raised the possibility that the motive for the murder might have been financial gain, asserting that his son had no known disputes with anyone.

The tragic incident transpired when the 14-year-old boy was subjected to a knife attack at his home around 5:30 pm on Wednesday. Upon hearing his distress calls, his parents, who were teaching other students in a separate room, rushed to the scene. To their horror, they discovered their son in a pool of blood and immediately rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
