Special intensive revision of electoral rolls to begin in Odisha from May 30

Bhubaneswar, May 15: Odisha Chief Electoral Officer R.S. Gopalan on Friday announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence across the state from May 30 as part of a nationwide exercise being conducted simultaneously in 16 states.

Addressing a press conference, Gopalan said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry out door-to-door verification of voters from May 30 to June 28. The primary objective of the exercise is to ensure greater accuracy and purity of electoral rolls by removing the names of non-citizens and ineligible voters.

He informed that Odisha currently has nearly 3.34 crore registered voters and around 9.80 lakh names have already been deleted after verification found them to be non-citizens. The state has achieved 94.61 per cent voter mapping so far.

Gopalan further stated that after rationalisation, Odisha will have 45,255 polling booths with an average of around 1,200 voters per booth. While 27,723 Booth Level Agents are currently engaged, as many as 38,123 BLOs have been appointed for the revision process.

He clarified that voters will not be required to produce any documents during the house-to-house survey. The draft electoral roll will be published on July 5, while the final electoral roll is scheduled to be released on September 6, 2026.
