Bhubaneswar, May 11: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday suspended Arabind Jena, a corporator of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation, from the party with immediate effect over allegations of anti-party activities.

The decision was announced through an official order issued by BJD General Secretary Bijaya Nayak. According to the order, disciplinary action was initiated against Jena after the party found his activities to be detrimental to its organisational interests and discipline.

Though the party did not specify the exact nature of the alleged anti-party activities, sources indicated that the leadership had been monitoring certain actions and statements made by the corporator in recent days before taking the disciplinary step.

The suspension is being viewed as part of the regional party’s efforts to maintain organisational discipline ahead of key political developments in the state. Party leaders have repeatedly warned members against indulging in activities that could damage the image or unity of the organisation.

This is not the first time the BJD has taken strict action against its leaders and members for alleged indiscipline or anti-party conduct. The party leadership has in the past suspended or expelled several functionaries accused of acting against official party interests.

The suspension of Arabind Jena has sparked discussions in political circles, especially within the civic body and local party units in Cuttack.
