Odisha Police to act against outsiders involved in campus poll incidents: DGP-in-charge
Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: Odisha Police will take appropriate action against outsiders allegedly involved in campus election-related incidents if formal complaints are registered against them, Director General of Police (DGP)-in-charge Vinaytosh Mishra said on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Mishra said student union elections had been conducted in around 300 colleges and universities across Odisha after an eight-year gap. He described the overall polling process as largely peaceful, with only a few minor incidents reported from different parts of the state.
“Except for a few minor incidents, the elections were conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner across the state. Our aim was to ensure violence-free elections and prevent outsiders from entering college campuses,” he said.
The police had focused on preventing interference by non-students during the election process, with cooperation from college authorities and students, Mishra added. He said coordinated efforts were made to maintain law and order and ensure that students could exercise their electoral rights in a peaceful environment.
Addressing allegations of outside involvement in campus clashes, the DGP-in-charge said police would examine the available evidence, including CCTV footage, wherever FIRs were registered against non-students.
“If FIRs are registered against non-students, we will examine CCTV footage and take appropriate action,” Mishra said.
He described the largely peaceful conduct of the elections as a positive development, particularly as student polls returned after a prolonged gap.
