IMD forecasts heavy rain across Odisha from July 18; orange alert issued for four districts
Bhubaneswar, July 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha from July 18 under the influence of active monsoon conditions. The weather office has issued orange and yellow warnings for multiple districts and advised people to remain cautious during the wet spell.
For July 18, the IMD has issued an Orange Warning for Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places. A Yellow Warning has also been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated locations.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, rainfall intensity is expected to ease slightly on July 19, although heavy showers will continue in Sundargarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Balangir, which remain under a Yellow Warning.
On July 20, heavy rain is likely to be confined mainly to Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, while Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj will continue under Yellow Warning on July 21.
The IMD has advised residents to monitor weather updates, avoid waterlogged areas and vulnerable structures, and check traffic conditions before travelling. Authorities have urged people to follow official advisories to minimise risks during the ongoing spell of heavy rainfall.
