Nurse found hanging in Bhubaneswar rented house; ex-boyfriend detained for questioning
Bhubaneswar, July 15: A nurse was found hanging in her rented house in the Damana area of Bhubaneswar under the jurisdiction of Chandrasekharpur Police Station on Wednesday. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident and are examining allegations of prolonged mental harassment and blackmail that may have driven her to take the extreme step.
The deceased has been identified as Sasmita, a native of Balangir, who was working as a nurse in the state capital. She had been living in a rented house with her live-in partner, Mahesh Nath.
After receiving information, police reached the house, recovered the body and sent it for postmortem examination. Mahesh was initially detained and questioned as part of the investigation.
During the course of the probe, investigators allegedly came across evidence suggesting the involvement of Sasmita's former boyfriend, Paramananda, who also hails from Balangir. Police suspect that he had allegedly been blackmailing and mentally harassing Sasmita after learning about her live-in relationship with Mahesh in Bhubaneswar.
According to investigators, the alleged harassment may have intensified in the days leading up to her death. Police have seized the deceased's mobile phone and are examining call records, messages and other digital evidence to establish the sequence of events and determine whether anyone abetted the suspected suicide.
Both Mahesh Nath and Paramananda are being questioned. Chandrasekharpur Police have registered an unnatural death case and said further action will be taken based on the postmortem report and the findings of the ongoing investigation.
