Odisha couple arrested for poisoning wife's lover
Koraput, Oct 29: A couple in Odisha's Koraput district has been apprehended on charges of allegedly murdering the wife's lover.
Rahul Santal, employed at a tent house, had been engaged in a clandestine relationship with a married woman from Anakadeli village, situated under the jurisdiction of Machhkund police station. This secret liaison endured for nearly a year until the woman's husband, Munna Din, recently discovered it.
Munna attempted to counsel his wife, advising her to sever ties with Rahul, as he feared it would tarnish their reputation in the village and possibly lead to social ostracism. Convinced by her husband's reasoning, the woman communicated to Rahul that their relationship had to end. However, Rahul was determined to sustain the affair and persisted in pressuring the woman to meet him in concealed locations.
Feeling harassed by Rahul's persistence, she confided in her husband, leading to the couple devising a plan to eliminate Rahul. In line with their scheme, the woman contacted Rahul via phone, inviting him to her house on a fateful Tuesday night with a promise of sharing beer. Once Rahul arrived with the beer, the woman added rat poison to the bottle and served it to him. Tragically, Rahul succumbed to the poison-laced beverage, prompting Munna to dispose of his lifeless body in a desolate area.
With Rahul failing to return that night, his family initiated a search and eventually filed a missing person report at the Machhkund police station. Following the registration of the case, the police initiated an investigation.
