Centre Considers Armed Forces Support for NEET-UG Re-Exam Logistics on June 21

In an unprecedented move, the Central Government is reportedly considering deploying the armed forces to assist with logistical arrangements for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21. If implemented, this would mark the first time the Indian military would play a role in the conduct of a nationwide entrance examination in the country.

According to official sources, the proposed involvement of the armed forces would primarily focus on ensuring the safe transportation of confidential examination materials, including question papers, across various states and remote regions. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is expected to play a key role in airlifting examination packets to sensitive or difficult-to-reach locations to prevent delays and eliminate security risks.

Government officials clarified that military personnel would not be involved in supervising examination centres or managing candidates during the test. Their role would remain limited to logistical coordination, emergency response support, and safeguarding the movement of question papers from printing presses to examination centres.

The move comes in the backdrop of the recent controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 examination, which was conducted earlier this year. Allegations of question paper leaks and large-scale irregularities had triggered nationwide outrage among students and parents. Following multiple complaints and investigations, authorities decided to conduct a re-examination to maintain transparency and restore public confidence in the examination process.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET examination, is currently working closely with several ministries and security agencies to ensure foolproof arrangements for the re-test. Reports indicate that a high-level meeting involving Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and senior officials from the defence and education sectors was recently held to review preparedness for the examination.

Sources suggest that the government is adopting a multi-agency approach for the smooth conduct of the exam. Apart from the armed forces, assistance from the Ministry of Home Affairs, state police departments, postal authorities, aviation agencies, and intelligence units is also being considered. Authorities aim to create a secure chain of custody for examination materials and avoid any possibility of malpractice.

Officials believe that involving the armed forces could significantly strengthen security measures and improve coordination during transportation, especially in areas vulnerable to weather disruptions or logistical challenges. The use of military aircraft and specialised communication systems is expected to ensure timely delivery of question papers without compromise.

The NEET-UG examination is one of India’s largest competitive entrance tests, with more than 22 lakh students appearing annually for admission into undergraduate medical courses across the country. Due to the scale and importance of the exam, maintaining fairness and security has become a major priority for the government.

Meanwhile, students and parents across the country are anxiously awaiting further announcements regarding examination arrangements and revised guidelines. Authorities have assured candidates that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a transparent, smooth, and secure re-examination process on June 21.

A final decision regarding the formal deployment of armed forces for NEET-UG logistics is expected in the coming days.
