Bhubaneswar, July 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha on July 24 and 25 and issued a Yellow Warning (Be Aware) for multiple districts. The weather office has advised residents to remain alert during heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

According to the IMD bulletin, an upper air cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha coast, observed between 5.8 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level on Thursday evening, has become less marked by Friday morning. However, its influence is expected to continue affecting weather conditions across the state.

For July 24, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely in several districts, including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.

For July 25, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at a few places across Odisha. A Yellow Warning has been issued for Baleshwar, Sundargarh, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj, where heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated locations. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected in several northern and coastal districts.

During the last 24 hours, Paralakhemundi recorded the highest maximum temperature of 33.2°C, while Boudh recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 18.3°C among the plains districts.

The IMD has urged people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid waterlogged areas and follow official weather advisories.
