Bhubaneswar, July 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across Odisha over the next week under the influence of the prevailing low-pressure system, issuing an Orange Warning for three districts and cautioning residents to remain alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

According to the IMD, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Keonjhar districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places on July 23, prompting an Orange Warning. A Yellow Warning has also been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj, where heavy rainfall is likely. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 kmph are also expected across several coastal and northern districts.

The weather department said the wet spell is likely to continue from July 24 to July 26, with Yellow Warnings for heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore. Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds are also expected to affect many districts during this period.

On July 27, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely across most parts of Odisha, while heavy rainfall may continue in Balasore, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Similar conditions are expected on July 28 and 29, with Yellow Warnings remaining in force for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

The IMD has advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and take precautions against waterlogging, lightning strikes and strong winds. Farmers and fishermen have also been urged to monitor weather updates regularly as active monsoon conditions continue across the state.
