Odisha Government says COVID situation under control, urges public not to panic

Bhubaneswar, July 23: The Odisha Government on Thursday assured the public that the COVID-19 situation in the state remains completely under control, stressing that there is no cause for alarm as the currently reported cases are mild and comparable to seasonal influenza.

Addressing mediapersons, Director of Public Health Dr. Rabindranath Mishra said there has been no COVID-19 outbreak in Odisha and urged people not to panic over the recent cases.

"There is no need to panic. Nowadays, COVID-19 behaves like common influenza. We have not received any reports of any outbreak in the state," Dr. Mishra said.

He informed that the Health Department came to know about the recent COVID-19 cases reported from Ganjam district through media reports. According to the latest information, two infected persons are under home isolation, while one patient has been admitted to a hospital. He said all the patients are in stable condition and are being closely monitored by health authorities.

The recent cases gained attention after a woman tested positive for COVID-19 at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where she is currently undergoing treatment in an isolation ward.

Health officials said the fresh infections have come into focus amid a rise in COVID-19 cases in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. However, they clarified that the situation in Odisha remains well within control and there is no indication of widespread transmission.

The Health Department is continuously monitoring the situation in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Government of India. Authorities have advised people to continue following basic precautions, including maintaining hand hygiene, wearing masks in crowded places if necessary, and seeking medical attention if symptoms persist.
