Heatwave intensifies in Odisha; Jharsuguda sizzles at 40.6°c before noon
Bhubaneswar, April 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported intense heatwave conditions across Odisha, with several regions witnessing soaring temperatures even before noon on Friday.
According to data released by the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda recorded a scorching 40.6°C by 11:30 am, making it the hottest place in the state. Rourkela followed closely at 39.2°C.
Other areas also reported high temperatures, with Sambalpur and Hirakud both registering 38.6°C, while Keonjhar recorded 38°C. Coastal and adjoining districts experienced relatively lower but still uncomfortable conditions, with Chandbali at 35.8°C, Bhubaneswar at 35°C, Balasore at 33.8°C, Puri at 33°C, and Gopalpur and Paradip at 31.2°C each.
The state is currently experiencing hot and dry weather, particularly in interior and western regions, raising concerns over prolonged heatwave conditions.
The IMD has advised residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses by avoiding direct sun exposure between 11 am and 4 pm, staying hydrated, and wearing light clothing. Special care has been urged for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
