IMD issues thunderstorm warning for Odisha; rain likely over next five days
Bhubaneswar, April 4: The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across several parts of Odisha over the next five days, while issuing a yellow warning for lightning and gusty winds in multiple districts.
According to the regional weather office, on Day 1 (till 8:30 am, April 5), rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Boudh. Hot and humid conditions may prevail in coastal districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected in districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal, while other areas may experience winds of 30–40 kmph.
On Day 2 (April 5–6), similar conditions are likely to continue, with isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds forecast in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and several interior districts.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning activity.
