Plus-III student dies after self-immolation attempt in Ganjam, probe underway
Bhubaneswar, April 2: A tragic incident has been reported from Ganjam, where a Plus-III student died while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital after allegedly setting herself ablaze over a personal relationship issue.
The incident took place on April 28 at Bhetanai village under Kotinada police limits. According to preliminary reports, the young woman reportedly poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire, sustaining critical burn injuries.
She was initially rushed to a hospital in Aska for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of her condition, she was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Doctors said she had suffered more than 60 per cent burn injuries, including severe damage to her face and neck.
Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about emotional distress among youth.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the incident, including the role of personal factors. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
