Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: A security guard is in critical condition after being assaulted with a sword during an attempted robbery near the Puri bypass road in Bhubaneswar last night.

The victim, identified as Gouranga Das from Jajpur, suffered severe injuries in the attack and was immediately taken to Capital Hospital for medical treatment.

According to reports, Gouranga was on duty at a vehicle showroom located near Mangaraj point along the Puri bypass road when three individuals approached him, initially asking for water. Subsequently, they attempted to carry out a robbery at the showroom, and when Das resisted, they resorted to violence, attacking him with a sword before fleeing the scene to evade capture.

Upon receiving the alert, the police arrived at the scene and rescued Gouranga, who was in a critical condition. He was swiftly transported to Capital Hospital for medical attention.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and diligent efforts are being made to track down the individuals responsible for the attack.
