IMD issues yellow and orange alerts for Odisha; thunderstorms and gusty winds expected
Bhubaneswar, Mar 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange weather warnings for several districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and hot and humid conditions over the next few days. The advisory urges residents to remain cautious as weather conditions are expected to fluctuate across the state.
According to the IMD forecast, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail on March 7 at one or two places across coastal and adjoining districts. Areas expected to experience discomforting weather include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
The weather department has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds reaching 30–40 kmph at isolated locations on March 8. Districts likely to be affected include Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, and Puri.
An orange warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Sundargarh for March 8, where stronger winds of 40–50 kmph along with thunderstorms and lightning are expected.
