Third accused arrested in brutal murder of transgender in Pipili
Bhubaneswar, Feb 23: In a major breakthrough, Ramachandi police have arrested a third accused in connection with the brutal murder of transgender woman Anjali. The accused, identified as Chhabina Kandi (35), was apprehended while hiding in a hut near Barapada village under Ramachandi police limits.
According to sources, Chhabina had been absconding since the murder. Acting on a tip-off, Ramachandi police station IIC Bichitra Nanda Parida led a special raid and successfully arrested him. He was later handed over to Pipili police, who are leading the investigation into the sensational case.
Earlier, the prime accused, Krishna Kandi (25), was arrested near Nayara petrol pump on the Pipili-Bhubaneswar Bypass, 11 days after the crime. Within 24 hours of his arrest, another suspect, Sunil Kandi alias Geja (22), was picked up from Mathasahi under Konark police station limits.
Police said the trio allegedly attempted to snatch Anjali’s vanity bag, which led to a heated scuffle. During the altercation, the accused reportedly stabbed Anjali multiple times, resulting in her death. Further investigation is underway.
