Two held in Rayagada for posing as Maoists, putting up fake banners
Bhubaneswar, Feb 16: In a significant development, police in Rayagada district have taken two persons into custody for allegedly impersonating Maoists and attempting to spread panic by putting up fake banners and posters across the region.
The accused have been identified as Anubrata Bara alias Ranjhu, a web channel journalist from Rayagada town, and Bali Majhi of Kanjammanda village under Kashipur police limits. Acting on reports of Maoist banners appearing at three separate locations on February 13, police launched a probe that led to the duo’s detention.
During preliminary investigation, officials found that the banners and posters were fabricated and had no connection with any active Maoist organisation. The two allegedly planned the printing and circulation of the materials with the intent to create fear among residents and disturb public order in the district.
Following their detention, both individuals were subjected to medical examination as per legal procedure. Investigators also revealed that Bali Majhi had previously been arrested in a Maoist-related case. Police are now examining whether his past links have any connection to the present incident, while further investigation remains underway.
