Veteran Congress leader Kanhu Charan Lenka passes away at 87
Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Kanhu Charan Lenka passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar at the age of 87, marking the end of a long and influential political career.
Born on March 2, 1939, Lenka was a prominent figure in Odisha politics and a respected voice within the Indian National Congress. He served as a Union Minister in the government led by former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao, where he contributed to national policymaking and party organisation.
Lenka was a Member of the Rajya Sabha from 1988 to 1994. He later represented the Choudwar constituency in the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 1995 to 2000, continuing his public service at the state level. Known for his forthright views on party affairs, he played a significant role in strengthening the Congress organisation in Odisha.
His association with the party spanned several decades, earning him respect across political circles. Senior Congress leaders have expressed deep grief over his demise, stating that his passing has created an irreplaceable void in Odisha’s political landscape.
