Love triangle sparks gang clash in Bhubaneswar; 10 arrested, two youths injured
Bhubaneswar, July 4: A suspected love triangle allegedly led to a violent clash between two rival gangs in Bhubaneswar's Chandrasekharpur area, leaving two youths seriously injured and prompting the arrest of 10 accused, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place near Buddha Vihar and the Isanesvara slum under the Chandrasekharpur police station limits after a personal dispute over a romantic relationship reportedly escalated into a confrontation between the rival 'Uttam' and 'Kumbhira' gangs.
Among the injured, Shubham Saroj, son of the secretary of Buddha Vihar Colony, suffered serious injuries after he was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons. Another local resident, Chandan Nayak, was also assaulted during the violence.
Addressing a press conference, Zone-VI ACP Manas Ranjan Pradhan said police initially registered a suo motu case based on a report submitted by Sub-Inspector Deb Samantaray, as no formal complaint had been filed immediately after the incident. Investigators later registered two separate cases following complaints from the injured victims.
Police said members of the 'Uttam' gang allegedly returned to Buddha Vihar the next day on motorcycles and scooters armed with swords and other weapons before launching the attack. During the investigation, more than 14 suspects were identified, and 10 have been arrested so far, including Akash Behera alias 'Kumbhira', who had been absconding. Police also seized a motorcycle, two scooters, a sword, a knife and other incriminating materials. Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining accused.
