BCPPER Economic Plan unveiled: CM Majhi charts growth roadmap for Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip region
Bhubaneswar, Feb 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday unveiled the comprehensive Economic Plan for the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER), prepared by NITI Aayog. The plan was launched at the Convention Centre of Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar in the presence of NITI Aayog Member Rajiv Gauba and CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the BCPPER region will emerge as the growth engine of Odisha’s economy and contribute significantly to India’s economic expansion. He highlighted the unique strengths of each city—Bhubaneswar as a technology hub, Cuttack for its business legacy, Puri for cultural and tourism prominence, and Paradip for port-led industrial development.
The plan outlines more than 80 projects across key sectors such as metal downstream industries, biotechnology, textiles, chemicals, tourism, education, and information technology. It also proposes over 30 policy initiatives aimed at integrated regional development supported by modern infrastructure.
Majhi noted that the Centre has identified City Economic Regions (CERs) in the 2026–27 Budget, with BCPPER included and earmarked for ₹5,000 crore support. Currently contributing 19% to Odisha’s GDP, the region’s economy—estimated at $22.4 billion—is targeted to grow to $500 billion by 2047.
Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the blueprint will shape Odisha’s urban and economic future, alongside ongoing urban expansion initiatives.
