Rourkela cop saves youth from drowning
Bhubaneswar, Feb 7: A police officer in Odisha’s Rourkela city has earned widespread appreciation for his bravery after rescuing a young man from drowning in a pond late Thursday night. The courageous act has drawn praise from local residents and police officials alike.
According to reports, Sub-Inspector Sinmay Bal of Plantsite Police Station sprang into action after receiving information that a youth had accidentally fallen into a pond at Gopabandhupalli under the station’s jurisdiction. On reaching the spot, he found the young man struggling to stay afloat in the dark waters while onlookers gathered in panic.
Without waiting for additional rescue support and despite poor visibility, SI Bal immediately jumped into the pond. Battling the darkness and deep water, he managed to reach the drowning youth and pull him safely to the shore. His prompt response and presence of mind prevented what could have turned into a tragic incident.
The rescued youth, whose life was saved due to the officer’s swift intervention, expressed deep gratitude. Locals hailed SI Bal as a real-life hero, lauding his courage, dedication to duty, and willingness to risk his own life to save another.
