Masked robbers pose as water seekers, loot ₹17 lakh from house in Keonjhar
Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: In a shocking incident that has left residents alarmed, eight masked robbers allegedly looted cash and gold worth around ₹17 lakh from a house at Bayapandadhar village under Sadar police station limits in Keonjhar district late Sunday night. The daring robbery has triggered fear and concern among locals over nighttime security.
According to police sources, the miscreants targeted the house of Sangram Kesari Naik and executed the crime using a deceptive ploy. The robbers reportedly arrived at the residence posing as people in distress, claiming that one of their associates had met with an accident and urgently needed water. Trusting the plea, the family opened the door, only to be confronted by armed assailants.
Once inside, the masked robbers allegedly pointed guns at family members, creating panic and terror. They snatched mobile phones to prevent any calls for help and locked the occupants inside a room. The criminals then ransacked the house, breaking open cupboards and storage units. They reportedly made away with ₹6.80 lakh in cash and gold jewellery valued at approximately ₹11 lakh.
After committing the crime, the robbers fled the scene before anyone could raise an alarm. Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. Search operations are underway to trace and apprehend the accused, while additional patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent similar incidents.
