Odisha govt to provide uniforms, ID cards and smartphones to Mission Shakti staff from April 1
Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: In a significant step to strengthen grassroots implementation of women-centric programmes, the Odisha government on Monday announced that Mission Shakti community support staff will be provided with uniforms, identity cards and smartphones from April 1, marking Utkal Divas. The initiative is expected to benefit around 46,000 community-level workers across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who also holds the Mission Shakti portfolio, said the decision fulfils a long-pending demand of community support staff and will enhance their efficiency, visibility and digital connectivity. She noted that empowering frontline workers is crucial for the effective delivery of welfare and livelihood programmes at the village level.
As part of the initiative, Community Resource Persons (CRPs) will receive smartphones to enable wider and more effective use of the LokOS app, a key digital platform supporting the Lakhpati Didi programme. The smartphones will help streamline data collection, monitoring and communication with beneficiaries.
Parida said the newly designed uniforms feature a distinct Odia artisanal touch, reflecting Odia Asmita and the state’s rich cultural heritage. The colours and design elements have been carefully selected to symbolize Odisha’s identity.
The Deputy Chief Minister added that the move will further empower women, strengthen community mobilisation and reinforce the role of Mission Shakti workers in promoting sustainable livelihoods at the grassroots level.
