Cold wave tightens grip across Odisha, 25 places record below 10°C temperatures
Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: A severe cold wave continues to sweep across Odisha, with as many as 25 locations recording night temperatures below 10°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). G. Udayagiri emerged as the coldest place in the state, shivering at a bone-chilling 2.6°C. It was followed by Rourkela at 3.6°C and Semiliguda at 4.1°C.
Several other places also witnessed intense cold conditions, including Jharsuguda (4.6°C), Phulbani (5°C), and Daringbadi, popularly known as the ‘Kashmir of Odisha,’ at 6°C. Sundargarh recorded 6.5°C, while Angul remained slightly warmer at 7°C. Nabarangapur hovered around 7.5°C, with Dhenkanal and Bhawanipatna close behind at 7.6°C and 7.8°C respectively.
Major cities were not spared either. Cuttack recorded 8.6°C, while Bhubaneswar saw 9.4°C. Sambalpur remained at 9.2°C. Keonjhar reported 7.9°C, Balangir 8.1°C, and Ranital 8.4°C.
Meanwhile, Boudh, Nuapada, and Bargarh recorded around 10°C. IMD has advised people to take necessary precautions as the cold wave is likely to persist for the next few days.
