Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: In a shocking incident, a youth was brutally stabbed to death late Thursday night following a verbal altercation in Puri’s Swargadwar area. The victim has been identified as Ranjan Kumar Das, a resident of Banta block in Bhadrak district.

According to sources, Ranjan had come to Swargadwar to attend the funeral of a relative. After the cremation, he was waiting outside the premises when he reportedly got into an argument with another youth. The heated exchange soon turned violent, and the accused allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Ranjan in the neck. He collapsed on the spot and died instantly due to excessive bleeding.

Manas Ranjan Nayak, who was accompanying Ranjan, also came under attack while trying to intervene. He sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.

Upon receiving information, Beach police rushed to the scene and launched an investigation. The body was sent to Puri District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the accused managed to flee after the incident and is currently absconding. Police are conducting raids and reviewing CCTV footage to trace the culprit.
