IMD issues yellow warning for dense fog and cold wave in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for dense fog and cold wave conditions in several districts of Odisha from January 7 to January 9, urging residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
According to the IMD forecast, dense fog is likely to occur in isolated pockets of Boudh, Nayagarh, Koraput and Kandhamal districts on January 7. In addition, cold wave conditions are expected to prevail over Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Koraput, Angul, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts on the same day. A yellow warning has been issued for all these districts.
The IMD further stated that cold wave conditions are very likely to continue on January 8 and January 9 in isolated pockets of the same districts, including Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Koraput, Angul, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur. Persistently low temperatures during this period may impact daily life, especially during early morning and night hours.
Meteorological officials have advised people, particularly children, the elderly and those with health issues, to avoid prolonged exposure to cold conditions. Motorists have also been cautioned to drive carefully during early morning hours due to reduced visibility caused by dense fog.
The IMD has asked district administrations to remain prepared to deal with any weather-related issues and urged residents to follow official advisories to stay safe during the cold spell.
