Miscreants loot ATM in Jajpur, flee with cash and mini truck
Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: In a daring late-night robbery, unidentified miscreants decamped with an entire ATM machine along with a parked mini truck from an HDFC Bank ATM kiosk at Mainda Bazaar under Binjharpur police limits in Jajpur district. The incident has triggered concern among local residents over growing criminal activities in the area.
According to reports, the robbery took place late on Tuesday night when the criminals targeted the ATM outlet. Using force, they allegedly damaged the kiosk, uprooted the ATM machine, and fled with cash. The mini truck, suspected to have been used in the heist to transport the ATM, was later found abandoned near the spot.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when locals noticed the vandalised ATM structure and immediately informed the police. On reaching the site, police found the kiosk badly damaged, with clear signs of forced entry and the ATM machine completely ripped apart.
Police believe the stolen vehicle was used to haul away the ATM and cash. CCTV footage from nearby establishments and traffic points is being examined to identify the suspects. Forensic teams have also been deployed to collect crucial evidence from the scene.
Meanwhile, local residents blamed inadequate night patrolling for the rise in such robbery incidents and demanded stronger security measures.
