Two convicted prisoners go missing after parole from Jharpada Jail
Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: Two convicted prisoners lodged at Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar have gone missing after failing to return to custody following their release on parole, raising serious concerns among jail authorities. Complaints have been lodged at the Laxmisagar police station, following which a manhunt has been launched to trace and apprehend the absconding convicts.
According to official sources, both inmates were released on parole under existing provisions but did not report back after the expiry of their sanctioned leave. The missing prisoners have been identified as Susil Digal, a life convict in a murder case, and Ranjit Nayak, who is serving a 20-year rigorous imprisonment sentence after being convicted in a rape case.
Susil Digal had earlier been granted furlough on several occasions and had returned to jail each time without incident. However, after being released on leave in 2024, he failed to report back. More than a year has passed since then, and authorities claim there is still no information regarding his whereabouts.
Similarly, Ranjit Nayak was released on furlough on October 1 and was required to return by the end of the month. His continued absence for over two months led jail authorities to file another complaint. Police are intensifying efforts to track down both fugitives.
