Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: Panic gripped the Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) premises on Thursday noon after a youth allegedly brandished a firearm at the Aahaar Kendra located inside the hospital campus, creating fear among patients, attendants and local residents.

According to sources, the youth suddenly pulled out a gun and began threatening people who had gathered at the food distribution centre. The unexpected act triggered chaos in the otherwise busy hospital premises, with several people rushing for safety. Hospital staff and locals immediately alerted the Soro police.

Responding swiftly, police reached the spot within minutes. Sensing the arrival of police, the youth attempted to flee after abandoning the firearm at the scene. However, alert local residents chased him and managed to detain him before he could escape. He was later handed over to the police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the youth had been staying in a rented house at Badei Sahi for the past few days. However, his identity and background are yet to be confirmed.

Police have seized the firearm and launched a detailed investigation to ascertain how he procured the weapon, his motive behind the act, and whether he has any criminal history.
