Odisha Govt approves ₹1 crore Grant for Bargarh Dhanu Yatra; major boost to festival preparations
Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: The Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department has announced a financial grant of ₹1 crore to support the upcoming Bargarh Dhanu Yatra, one of the world’s largest open-air theatrical festivals. The decision was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, reflecting the state government’s commitment to promoting Odisha’s cultural heritage.
The 2025–26 edition of Dhanu Yatra will be held in Bargarh from December 24, 2025, to January 3, 2026. As part of the initiatives, nearly 200 artistes participating in the grand festival will receive an honorarium of ₹10,000 each, recognising their contribution to this iconic cultural celebration.
To enhance visibility and outreach, the event will be telecast live through LED screens across Bargarh. The Odisha Paribar Directorate will also arrange LED-screen live telecasts in various states outside Odisha, enabling the Odia diaspora and cultural enthusiasts nationwide to experience the festival.
Additional preparations include constructing Dhanu Yatra–themed welcome gates at major entry points of Bargarh town and operating special tourist buses from Bhubaneswar and Puri during the festival period.
A dedicated website will be launched to provide comprehensive information about Dhanu Yatra, featuring event schedules, videos, maps, hotel listings, parking details, and GPS-enabled navigation. A digital quiz will also be introduced to engage students, with participants receiving digital certificates.
