Five killed in NH-53 crash in Jajpur
Bhubaneswar, May 4: At least five persons were killed and several others injured in a tragic road accident on National Highway 53 near Barada Square in Jajpur district on Monday.
According to reports, the mishap occurred when a Bolero vehicle carrying passengers returning from a wedding in the Badachana area rammed into a stationary truck parked along the roadside. The collision was so severe that several occupants were trapped inside the mangled vehicle.
Local residents rushed to the spot and alerted police and fire services. Rescue teams quickly arrived and launched an operation to pull out the trapped passengers. A total of ten people were rescued from the wreckage, but five of them succumbed to their injuries.
The injured, including some in critical condition, were immediately shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment. Two children who were in the vehicle reportedly escaped unharmed.
Senior police officials, including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and personnel from Badachana and Jenapur police stations, reached the scene and began an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Authorities are working to ascertain the identities of the deceased and injured, while further details are awaited.
