Bhubaneswar, May 5: In a shocking incident reportedly triggered by a dispute over a love proposal, a young man was brutally beaten to death in the Simulia police station area of Balasore district.

The deceased has been identified as Subas, son of Sudarshan Sutar of Purushottampur Panchayat. According to reports, Subas had allegedly proposed to a young woman from Birabrahmapur village under Kanchapada Panchayat through a mobile phone. When the girl’s father, Bhagaban Kar, came to know about the matter, he allegedly abducted Subas with the help of a few associates.

The victim was reportedly taken to an Anganwadi centre located within the premises of a local school in Birabrahmapur, where he was tied to a pillar and mercilessly assaulted. Following the brutal attack, Subas was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to a nearby medical facility in Simulia.

As his condition worsened, he was later shifted to Bhadrak Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment. However, doctors there declared him dead.

Police have registered a case at Simulia Police Station and initiated an investigation into the incident. One person has been detained and is currently being interrogated. Authorities said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing probe.
