CM Mohan Majhi Returns to Odisha After UAE Tour, Investment Outreach Gains Momentum

Bhubaneswar, September 13: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi returned to the state on Saturday following his multi-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he led an investment promotion campaign aimed at attracting global capital and strengthening economic ties between Odisha and the UAE.

The Chief Minister’s return marked the conclusion of an intensive international outreach programme involving meetings with UAE government representatives, investors, industrialists and business leaders. The Odisha delegation presented the state as an emerging destination for large-scale investments across a range of sectors.

During the visit, discussions reportedly centred on infrastructure, renewable and clean energy, manufacturing, critical minerals, ports, logistics and other emerging industries. The government sought to highlight Odisha’s natural resources, industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce and strategic location along India’s eastern coast as key advantages for prospective investors.

The UAE outreach is reported to have generated investment intents worth approximately ₹2.43 lakh crore. These proposals are expected to create significant employment opportunities in Odisha. However, investment intents and agreements will have to pass through subsequent processes before they can be converted into operational projects.

The Chief Minister and his team also emphasised the state government’s objective of diversifying Odisha’s economy. While Odisha has traditionally been recognised for its mineral and metal industries, the government is seeking greater investment in technology, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, logistics, exports and port-led development.

The UAE visit was part of the state government’s broader effort to establish direct connections with international investors and encourage them to explore opportunities in Odisha. Meetings with prominent business groups were used to explain the state’s investment policies and the opportunities available under its industrial development framework.

The government is now expected to concentrate on follow-up discussions and implementation of the investment proposals generated during the visit. Officials will have to coordinate with investors and companies to facilitate approvals, land and infrastructure requirements and other necessary clearances so that proposed projects can move towards execution.

Majhi’s overseas investment campaign comes as Odisha seeks to strengthen its position as a competitive destination for domestic and foreign investors. The government has repeatedly stressed the importance of attracting capital that can generate employment, expand industrial activity and provide new opportunities for the state’s young population.

The UAE engagement is therefore being viewed as an important step in Odisha’s international investment strategy. If the proposed projects materialise, they could contribute to industrial expansion and employment generation across several sectors.

With the Chief Minister back in Odisha, attention will now shift towards translating the investment commitments and discussions held in the UAE into concrete projects on the ground. The success of the outreach will ultimately depend on how effectively these proposals are followed up and implemented in the coming months.
