Newly elected Nuapada MLA Jay Dholakia takes oath in Odisha Assembly
Bhubaneswar, Nov 20: Jay Dholakia, the newly elected MLA from Nuapada, was officially sworn in as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Speaker Surama Padhy in her chamber, marking Dholakia’s formal entry into the state’s legislative affairs.
Dholakia secured a resounding victory in the recently held by-election, defeating his nearest rivals—BJD candidate Snehangini Chhuria and Congress nominee Ghasiram Majhi—by a substantial margin. His impressive win reflects strong public support in the Nuapada constituency, where voters placed their trust in him following a closely watched electoral contest.
The by-election became necessary after the demise of his father and sitting MLA, Rajendra Dholakia. The polling was conducted on November 11, and the results were declared on November 24, where Dholakia emerged triumphant with a decisive lead. His victory not only continues his father’s political legacy but also brings renewed expectations for development in the region. With his swearing-in complete, Dholakia is now set to begin his responsibilities as a legislator, representing the aspirations and concerns of the people of Nuapada.
