Double tragedy in Ganjam village as son dies during father’s rituals; family and villagers devastated
Bhubaneswar, Nov 20: A pall of grief has descended on Atarang village under Aska block in Ganjam district following a heart-wrenching double tragedy that has left the entire community in deep mourning. The family of 50-year-old Udaya Gouda, who passed away on March 11, was already struggling to cope with his loss when another devastating blow struck.
According to reports, Udaya’s only son, 30-year-old Rajendra Goud, collapsed and died while performing his father’s tenth-day death rituals. Rajendra, who suddenly took ill during the ceremony, was immediately rushed to the hospital but could not be saved. The shocking turn of events has left the grief-stricken family without any able-bodied male member to perform the funeral rites of the father and son.
The situation has sparked concern across the village, as residents worry about how the last rites of both men will be conducted. Rajendra, the sole breadwinner of the household, leaves behind his wife and three young children, further deepening the family’s crisis.
Villagers have urged the district administration to step in and provide urgent assistance, both for the conduct of the rituals and to support the bereaved family in this moment of unbearable tragedy.
