Low-pressure system forms over Bay of Bengal, likely to intensify into depression
Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday informed that a well-marked low-pressure area has developed over the northwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal, gradually moving westwards. According to the latest IMD bulletin, the system is likely to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours, off the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh.
“The low-pressure area over central parts of north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal moved westwards and lay as a well-marked system at 5:30 AM today, September 26. It is very likely to concentrate into a depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours,” the IMD stated.
The weather office further predicted that the system is expected to cross the South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts around the morning of September 27. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are likely to lash several districts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, as rough conditions are expected.
