Law Minister reveals Deepak Rout’s shocking past in Subhamitra murder case
Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has made a startling disclosure about Deepak Rout, the prime accused in the sensational murder of lady traffic constable Subhamitra Sahu. Speaking in the Assembly while responding to a motion moved by the BJD, the Minister revealed that Rout had also allegedly murdered his first wife, Aparna Priyadarshini, in 2022 to fraudulently claim her insurance money.
Initially, Aparna’s death was reported as an accident involving a truck, but investigations later uncovered serious discrepancies. The truck allegedly linked to the accident was found to be in Rourkela at the time, casting doubt on Deepak’s claim. On March 17, 2022, Deepak had said Aparna died after being hit by a truck while he was changing their car’s tire. However, according to the Minister, this was staged, and Rout subsequently claimed Rs 20 lakh as insurance compensation.
The Minister alleged that the former BJD government mishandled the case, raising questions of a possible cover-up. Rout was later arrested on September 9, 2024, for murdering his second wife, Subhamitra. Investigations revealed he killed her after demanding Rs 20 lakh from her family and secretly burying her body in Keonjhar with the help of accomplices.
