IMD issues yellow warning for Odisha: Heavy rain and thunderstorms predicted till September 15

Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next few days. The alert is particularly in force for Thursday, with the possibility of weather-related disruptions across large parts of the state.
According to the IMD, Koraput and Malkangiri districts are expected to witness heavy downpours and thunderstorms, along with surface wind speeds reaching 30–40 kmph. The department cautioned that such conditions may disrupt normal life, including road transport, outdoor activities, and electricity supply in vulnerable areas.
In addition to these two districts, 28 others have been placed under a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds. These include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, and Rayagada.
The IMD has also extended the yellow warning until September 15, urging residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official weather updates to ensure safety during this period.
