Class-II student injured after being locked in classroom overnight
Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: In a shocking case of negligence, a Class-II student was left locked inside her school overnight after staff members failed to check the classrooms properly before closing for the day.
The incident took place at Anjar Government Upper Primary School, where authorities locked the premises at around 4 pm on Thursday, unaware that eight-year-old Jyotsna Dehuri was still inside. When Jyotsna did not return home, her worried family members searched the entire village but could not trace her.
In a desperate attempt to free herself, the little girl tried to crawl out through a classroom window. Unfortunately, her legs got trapped between the iron bars, leaving her dangling and bleeding profusely. She spent the whole night in immense pain and fear, crying for help, but nobody heard her.
The next morning, villagers spotted her in distress. With the help of the school cook, they fetched the keys, unlocked the classroom, and bent the iron grills to rescue her. She was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital by her father and the headmaster.
According to the School and Mass Education Department, Jyotsna is now recovering well.
