700 kg explosives recovered from Saranda forest in major anti-maoist operation

Bhubaneswar, June 4: In a major breakthrough in the fight against left-wing extremism, security forces on Wednesday recovered 700 kilograms of explosive materials from the Saranda forest, located near the Odisha-Jharkhand border. The seizure was made during a high-intensity combing operation conducted jointly by personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Special Operations Group (SOG), and the elite COBRA unit.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team launched a well-coordinated sweep of the dense forest area. During the operation, they unearthed a hidden cache of explosives believed to be intended for Maoist attacks targeting security forces and infrastructure in the region.
This recovery comes just days after Maoist rebels looted a large quantity of explosives in Sundargarh district on May 27, when they intercepted and diverted an explosive-laden truck into the Saranda forest. Last week, security forces had recovered 2.5 tonnes of those stolen explosives in the same region.
Officials believe the recovered materials were part of that looted cache. The ongoing combing operation is aimed at neutralizing Maoist hideouts and preventing further insurgent activities along the sensitive border region.
