India's Sift Kaur Samra strikes gold in 50m Rifle 3-position at Asian Games

New Delhi, Sep 27: India's Sift Kaur Samra delivered an extraordinary and record-breaking performance to secure the gold medal in the Women's 50m Rifle 3-Positions Individual competition at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre during the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Wednesday.
Sift's remarkable achievement was marked by her exceptional score of 469.6 points, a score that not only earned her the gold but also set a new World Record, a fresh Asian Games record, and an Asian Record. The Women's 50m Rifle 3-Positions competition is renowned for its challenging nature, testing the shooter's abilities in various positions, including kneeling, prone, and standing.
Sift's triumph saw her surpass the previous world record of 467.0, held by Seonaid McIntosh of Great Britain, a record that had been established at the ISSF World Cup in Baku earlier in the year. In addition to Sift's gold, India's Ashi Chouksey secured the bronze medal with a score of 451.9, finishing behind China's Qiongyue Zhang, who scored 462.3.
Prior to this outstanding individual achievement, Sift and Ashi, along with their teammate Mannini Koushik, had already showcased their prowess by clinching the silver medal in the Women's 50m Rifle 3-Positions Team event, adding to India's medal tally at the Asian Games.
