Crime Branch probes FM College ICC report; members allege hasty, flawed investigation

Bhubaneswar, July 19: In a major development in the FM College self-immolation case, the Crime Branch has raised serious concerns after reviewing the report submitted by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the college. Following its takeover of the investigation, the Crime Branch found that several ICC members themselves have now come forward, alleging that the report was prepared hastily and lacked proper scrutiny.
According to sources, ICC members admitted that they were preoccupied with other academic and administrative duties during the inquiry. Instead of questioning all relevant students, the committee reportedly relied on a lottery system to select a few students, thereby excluding many vital witnesses.
One ICC member revealed that individuals who were not even students of the Integrated B.Ed program were brought in and their statements were recorded as part of the official inquiry.
Raising further doubts, a member questioned the circumstances of the incident: “Why was the video of the girl’s self-immolation recorded? How did a girl who uses a bicycle obtain petrol?”
The Crime Branch has taken these concerns seriously and is expected to conduct a more impartial and thorough investigation into the entire sequence of events surrounding the tragic case.
