Ravenshaw University expels 10 senior students from hostel over ragging incident

Bhubaneswar, July 21: Ravenshaw University has taken stringent disciplinary action against ten third-year undergraduate students for allegedly ragging newly admitted first-year students in the East Hostel on Saturday night. The accused seniors reportedly harassed and verbally abused the juniors, creating panic among the freshers.
As soon as the incident came to light, the university's Chief Warden, hostel wardens, faculty members, and senior administrative officials rushed to the hostel and brought the situation under control after multiple rounds of counseling and intervention.
An internal inquiry was promptly conducted, and based on the findings, the university administration identified the ten students involved in the misconduct. As a punitive measure, they were ordered to vacate the hostel premises by Sunday evening.
The students were given temporary accommodation at the university guest house for a night. In addition, the university formally informed the parents of all accused students about the disciplinary action taken.
The university administration reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on ragging and warned that any future incidents of indiscipline would invite even harsher consequences. The move underscores Ravenshaw’s commitment to ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students.
